2008 Dinner

A fantastic night!  Our list of thanks is even longer than last year.

First and foremost are the attendees who turned up, put their hand up and raised over $30,000 after all costs. This money goes directly to providing the kids of Beverley Park with much needed facilities, including the Liberty Swing (see below).

An Evening with James O'Loghlin

Was the theme of the night. James is a very well known radio and TV personality, particularly on the ABC. He has many talents including, holding a law degree before giving up a legal vocation for the even more cut-throat business of being a stand up comedian.

Coincidentally, it was James' show, The New Inventors, on which the "Liberty Swing" was launched and won an episode  to put it in the running for invention of the year. The Children's Hope Foundation provided significant funding to install a Liberty Swing at Beverley Park School. The swing was provided by the Variety Club of Australia, but substantial landscaping and safety equipment was necessary with the installation.

James was a funny and intelligent speaker, and his interview of acting principal, Michelle Laval, who was almost so comfortable in her interviewee role, hat she almost stole the show. Great fun.

The Liberty Swing

Designed for use by disabled children confined to a wheelchair, the swing gives children the opportunity to experience the thrill of a playground swing without the need to leave their wheelchairs. Or as the inventor says:
"No more sitting on the edge and wondering what it would be like to fly through the air and feel the breeze on their faces."

If you were part of our evening, in any small way, you have helped a very deserving child fly! Thank you.

A section of the crowd on the night. People love coming to the night, because everyone is there to have a good time, without any pretence. Well done everyone, thank you for your support.

A great night and a terrific result for the kids.
